
(Camp Hill, PA) - The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has announced that Laurence H. Brown, a member of the Philadelphia law firm of Brookman, Rosenberg, Brown & Sandler, has been appointed Chair of the Rules Committee of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
The 16-member Disciplinary Board, an independent agency created by the Supreme Court and funded through an assessment of attorneys practicing in Pennsylvania, is comprises 14 attorneys and two non-attorneys from across the Commonwealth. The Board meets regularly to decide cases, policy and board administrative matters. The goals of the Disciplinary Board are to protect the general public; to maintain a high standard of integrity in the legal profession; and to safeguard the reputation of the courts in Pennsylvania by assuring compliance by all attorneys to the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Brown was a member of the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, working for Emmett Fitzpatrick, and later Edward G. Rendell. During his tenure, he was Rendell's Chief of Economic Crimes, and also Director of the National District Attorney's Association's Economic Crimes Project. He has also served as a member of the National Legislative Conference on Arson, and was appointed to the Pennsylvania Commission on Arson by Governor Richard Thornburgh. In 1999 he was appointed as a Hearing Committee Member of the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, and in 2003 was appointed to the 16 member Board.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, B.A. and Villanova University School of Law, J.D., Mr. Brown's practice area within his law firm is toxic torts, working extensively with cases related to asbestos exposure.
The Disciplinary Board was created by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to review conduct and assure compliance by all attorneys to the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct.
