(Camp Hill, Pa.) - The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has reappointed Laurence H. Brown to the Disciplinary Board for a second, three-year term. Brown, a co-founder of the Philadelphia-based Brookman, Rosenberg, Brown and Sandler, has been involved with the Supreme Court since he served as hearing committee member of the Disciplinary Board in 1999. He was originally appointed to the board in 2003 and currently serves as chairman of the Rules Committee.
The Disciplinary Board is an independent agency funded by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and comprised of 16 members, 14 attorneys and two non-lawyers from across the state. It assists the Supreme Court in carrying out its exclusive jurisdiction over the licensing and discipline of attorneys in Pennsylvania. The members meet regularly to decide cases, policies and board administrative matters.
Brown earned his B.A. at the Pennsylvania State University and attended law school at Villanova University School of Law. He then worked for the Philadelphia district attorney's office under Emmett Fitzpatrick, Jr. and Edward G. Rendell. During that time Brown was Rendell's chief of economic crimes, director of the National District Attorney's Association's Economic Crimes Project, a member of the National Legislative Conference on Arson and was appointed by Governor Thornbergh to the Pennsylvania Commission on Arson.
After working for the district attorney's office, Brown left in 1982 and entered private law practice. In 1984, he co-founded Brookman, Rosenberg, Brown and Sandler, a full-service law firm in Philadelphia that primarily handles cases resulting in injuries stemming from exposure to asbestos.
The Disciplinary Board's goals are to protect the general public, maintain a high standard of integrity in the legal profession, and safeguard the reputation of the courts of Pennsylvania. The Disciplinary Board was created by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to review conduct and assure compliance by all attorneys to the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct.
