Smith B. Gephart to serve a second three-year term on Pennsylvania's attorney oversight board.

(Lemoyne, Pa.) - The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania announces that Smith B. (Bart) Gephart, a partner in the Harrisburg law firm of Killian and Gephart LLP, has been reappointed to a second three-year term on the Disciplinary Board.

The Disciplinary Board is an independent agency funded by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and consists of 16 members, 14 attorneys and two non-lawyers from across the state. It assists the Supreme Court in carrying out its exclusive jurisdiction over the licensing and discipline of attorneys in Pennsylvania. The members meet regularly to decide cases, policies and board administrative matters.

"Working with the Disciplinary Board has been rewarding because the board is helping advance the legal system," Gephart said. "The Disciplinary Board is a cohesive group that works hard to adjudicate the cases received and get them to the Supreme Court both efficiently and effectively."

With more than 35 years of experience in practicing law in both state and federal courts, Gephart's practice areas include criminal law and real estate law. He currently serves as the dean of the Criminal Defense Bar.

Throughout his career, Gephart has represented individuals targeted by the U.S. Department of Justice, United States Attorneys' Offices, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the U.S. Postal Inspector, the Internal Revenue Service, the Office of Thrift Supervision, the Resolution Trust Corporation, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the Office of Inspector General for the Departments of Defense and Transportation, OSHA, and several states' Attorney Generals.

Gephart earned his law degree from Washington College of Law of American University. He also received his B.A. from American.

The Disciplinary Board's goals are to protect the general public, maintain a high standard of integrity in the legal profession, and safeguard the reputation of the courts of Pennsylvania. The Disciplinary Board was created by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to review conduct and assure compliance by all attorneys to the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct.
