Annual attorney registration opens each May and is to be completed by July 1. On average, about 76,000 attorneys are required to register each year. This year, 81.8% of attorneys paid by the July 1 deadline. As of July 31, the last day to register without penalty, 96.8% of attorneys had completed their registration. Finally, 98.3% of attorneys had completed their annual registration requirement as of August 31, the last day to register before a second penalty is assessed.
On September 17, the remaining 1,111 un-registered attorneys were certified to the Supreme Court for Administrative Suspension. During the 30 day period in which the Supreme Court Order was pending, attorneys were able to complete their outstanding obligation and therefore be removed from the list of attorneys to be Administratively Suspended. This year, 461 attorneys were placed on Administrative Suspension, effective October 17, 2018.
Annual attorney registration is required to be completed electronically pursuant to Pa.R.D.E. 219(a). When registering, attorneys are able to submit payment online with a credit card or by mail with a check and unique payment voucher. This year, 62,116 attorneys chose to “Pay Online” with a credit card while 12,709 attorneys chose to “Pay by Mail” with a voucher and check.
